TT Electronics has been given a contract to develop and qualify a dc=dc converter for a flight control system to potentially be used in the Tempest project, a fighter aircraft concept being done by Italy and the UK, Electronics Weekly reported.
“All this work will be completed in the UK,” TT Electronics marketing manager Josh Slater told Electronics Weekly. Team Tempest -a consortium of businesses and government departments - includes BAE Systems, RAF’s Rapid Capabilities Office, the UK Ministry of Defense, Rolls Royce, Leonardo and MBDA.
The Tempest will replace the existing Typhoon aircraft and the combat aircraft is expected to be ready by 2035. There are over 1,800 people working on the project at the moment.
“BAE Systems are one of the most recognised names in the global defence industry and play a leading role in many of the world’s most advanced military platforms,” said TT Electronics business development manager Ben Fox. “Our initial project is to supply the company’s facility in Warton in support of Team Tempest. This collaboration with BAE Systems provides an excellent opportunity to support our industry partners, working to revolutionise the development of combat air systems.”
