Major Internet Providers Not Waving Overage Fees During Pandemic, AT&T Is

With schools and many businesses forcing people to work or study from home, the issue of major broadband usage overages is one many will have to pay for at the moment. Apart from AT&T, all the other major internet providers have not commited to waving the overage fees, though they have agreed to not turn the service off during this period, allowing them to rack up a bill.

Whether the companies will change the current billing plan has yet to be determined. "Many of our AT&T Internet customers already have unlimited home-Internet access, and we are waiving Internet data overages for the remaining customers," AT&T said in a statement provided to Ars Technica.

Comcast, the largest home internet access provider in the US, and Cox, both are not waving the overages - though interestingly they are increasing the speed of connections which will make it easier for users to exceed their usage limits. Both companies charge $10 per 50 gigs of over usage.

People who are working from home or telecomutting to school might want to look at changing their service package. Most phone companies offer a hotspot through your phones which can be cheaper than what is offered by the cable companies - though this should be checked before using or signing up for.
