Cornell Dubilier Electronics NHR Series High Performance Flat Electrolytic Capacitors

Cornell Dubilier Electronics’ new NHR series is an expansion of their high performance flat electrolytic capacitors. With a lifetime of 3,000 hours at full rated conditions these capacitors can withstand up to 80g vibrations.

 

The NHR capacitors can operate in temperatures between  –55 °C and 150 °C and have stainless steel cases with laser-welded covers to prevent dry-out and meet “most demanding military, aerospace, industrial, and down-hole applications”, Electronics 360 noted.

The NHR capacitors are a spin-off of Cornell Debilier’s Flatpack series used in military and aerospace applications for nearly 30 years.

“Our NHR Flatpack technology offers exceedingly long life at high temperatures for critical applications that previously have been the domain of wet-tantalum capacitors,” said Mario DiPietro, Product Manager for Cornell Dubilier. “Their high-capacitance density at high voltage and temperature solves many of the problems faced by engineers designing circuits for extreme environments,” continued DiPietro. 

CDE has had considerable success in replacing large series-parallel banks of wet tantalum capacitors with fewer components, saving them valuable space, weight and cost.

NHR series components are available from 75 Vdc through 300 Vdc with capacitance values ranging from 60 µF to 960 µF. With four case lengths available in 0.5” increments from 1.5” to 3.0”,  cases measure 0.5” thin by 1.0” wide.

NHR have:

  • Load life of 3,000 hours at 150°C 

  • Withstands up to 50g vibration on the three largest cases

  • Up to 80g on the smallest case size

  • The series has been tested for altitudes up to 80,000 ft.

Potential applications include:

  •  any high-performance circuits that require large capacitance bulk storage

  •  filtering at high temperature

  •  power supplies and inverters for avionics, military electronics

  •  and such energy industry applications as down-hole recording devices.
