“C&K’s MPSR series of magnetic sensors are designed for non-contact position and proximity detection in tough dirty environments,” Electronics Weekly reports. “The 61mm long housing is aluminium with a stainless steel cable, and operating life is 4 million actuations in spite of dirt, dust, oil, grease and water, according to the company.”
The C&K switches are IP67 hermetically sealed contacts that insulate electrical switch contacts from the outside environment, and provide non-contact object detection beyond the normal limits of products such as inductive sensors, the company has stated.
These electro-mechanical switches have Form C (change-over) with two outputs that toggle to provide additional feedback, while inside the sensor is a reed switch that is nitrogen-filled reed that have rhodium coated contacts.
“Ideal for Zone 2 applications, the MPSR Series sensor utilises hermetically sealed contacts that insulate electrical switch contacts from the outside environment, eliminating the risk of sparks,” C&K told Electronics Weekly. “Magnetic proximity sensors offer non-contact object detection beyond the normal limits of products such as inductive sensors.”
When the accompanying magnet is removed from proximity to the sensor the MPSR Series sensors are open, and they are held closed when the magnet is within actuation range. Conversely, when the magnet is removed from proximity to the sensor the contacts are closed and are open when the magnet is within actuation range.
With 30V 3W rating, the sensor can be used for either load switching or signal level as required by the application. Operating range is -40 to 80°C) and the sensor is UL61058 approved. The cable is 2m long with 22AWG copper or aluminium conductors and rated UL 1061 UL1007 UL2468.
“The MPSR series from C&K are ruggedized magnetic proximity sensors, perfect for automotive sensors and indicators, industrial sensors, anti-tampering and other security, and factory automation equipment. The MPSR series sensor and magnet are both sealed in a tough aluminium housing combined with stainless steel wire sleeves, protecting them from the harsh environments they’re commonly used in, whether it be from oil, water, grease, or volatile chemicals and gases”.
