USITC Issues Luxshare IP Infringement Investigation Notices

The US has launched a patent infringement investigation against Luxshare Precision Industry over possible import violations, following an IP infringement filing by Amphenol Corp late last year.

Luxshare Precision Industry Co Ltd, a fast-rising Apple supplier of connector cables for the iPhone and Macbook and manufacturer of Airpods, in a stock market filing on Sunday said “it had been informed of two notices issued by the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) regarding a Section 337 investigation filed against it by U.S.-based Amphenol Corp, alleging IP infringement,” Reuters reported.

Amphenol filed a section 337 complaint against Luxshare and its subsidiaries in December, alleging that certain electronic components imported into the United States from Luxshare infringe on Amphenol’s patents for connector cables.

While the company’s stock price fell during trading today, Luxshare does not expect the case to have a material impact on current operations and production. Luxshare has gained prominence with its acquisition of ODM plants in China and its growing position as a supplier to Apple.

Luxshare told Reuters it had hired a team of lawyers to respond and would “follow procedure” on the investigation, without elaborating, but reiterated that the case “will not have a material impact” on its current operations and production.
